Lead Plywood

When the lead thickness required exceeds 1/8" thick or more structural support is needed, sheet lead can be applied to a plywood backing instead of drywall. Typically, 3/4" fire treated plywood is used. Lead can be applied to the back of the plywood in almost any thickness from 1/32" to 3/4". These panels can be cut to 12" or 16" widths, depending on the stud spacing. With the greater lead thicknesses, screw caps cannot be used. Instead, each stud should have a lead strip installed inside it. With this application, regular drywall is then attached to the plywood to finish the wall.
